Game Of The Week
1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 d6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5.Nc3
I was black in this correspondence game. I haven't been playing the Sicilian Dragon for long so this was a good learning game. So far nothing out of the ordinary so I was still fairly comfortable.
5...g6 6.Be3 Bg7 7.f3 O-O 8.Qd2
Yugoslav Attack. I had played this a few times as white and black in the past month. I fared better when I used it as white so I was starting to worry just a little.
8...Nc6 9.Nb3 Be6 10.Bh6 Bxb3 11.axb3 Nb4 12.Ne2
I wasn't as worried now. My opponent had let me trade my bishop for his knight, not only doubling his pawns but it looked like he would't be castling queenside anymore so his kingside pawns wouldn't be storming in to tear up my position. I was hoping to set up a fork with my knight after the bishop trade on h6, but it seemed my opponent saw that much.
12...Bxh6 13.Qxb4 Qc7 14.c4 Bg7 15.Qd2 a5 16.Nc3 Qc5
I was really just trying to camp out and keep white from castling for a while. Thought to keep some pressure on him and then work at moving in on his king.
17.Nd5 Nxd5 18.cxd5 Qb4 19.Qxb4 axb4
I thought that after the queen trade I would have a better chance of attacking his doubled pawns and end up with a better end game.
20.Rb1 Ra2 21.Bc4 Bxb2 22.O-O Rf-a8
Now I was looking to prepare a rook trade should he try and move one of his rooks from the 1st rank.
23.Rf2?? Bd4 0-1
White resigns . My opponent sent me a message saying he saw the blunder right after he clicked the submit button. This wasn't a really great game on my part. I seemed to lack any real attacking strategy towards the end. I think i was intimidated by the Yugoslav Attack and my only line of reasoning was to prevent the kingside pawn storm and not let him line up a rook and queen battery against my castle. Once that was done I seemed to lose focus though. still it was an enjoyable game and it credited me a win in an online tournament.
